Union Minister of State for Panchayat Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil has ordered Punjab to release the pending amount of Rs 35.28 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana 2023 on Tuesday, 23rd August. According to an official statement, Patil gave this direction when he was in Punjab to attend an event and was informed about the pending funds under the scheme by Punjab Rural Development Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.

Minister Kuldeep Singh has told Minister Kapil Moreshwar Patil that the funds for his centrally sponsored schemes related to rural development are stuck with the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. After receiving all this information, Patil ji has ordered release of Rs 35.28 crore for construction of 10654 new houses and completion of 7293 under-construction houses in Punjab.

Features of Rural Housing Scheme PM 2023

Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided for construction of 1 crore houses.
Under the Rural Housing Scheme 2023, the space for housing construction will be increased from 20 square meters to 25 square meters, including the area for kitchen.
Under this scheme, unit assistance in plain areas is Rs 1.20 lakh and in hilly areas the unit assistance is Rs 1.30 lakh.
The total cost of this scheme is Rs 1,30,075 crore, which will be borne by the Central Government and the State Governments in the ratio of 60:40.
The family of rural areas will be determined on the basis of SECC 2011 data.
The classification of difficult areas in a state will have to be done by the state governments. Such classification shall be done on the basis of existing classification in the State under any other provision and using criteria based methodology.
Himachal State – Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will also be included in this category.

Toilet has been made an integral part of Gramin Awas Yojana. The house will be considered complete only after the toilet is constructed. An amount of ₹ 12000 will be made available by the government for the construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Apart from this, the provision of 90/95 person days unskilled labor wages has also been fixed for house construction under MNREGA.
