  • The Cheyenne VA Medical Center, is recruiting for (1) one Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA). This position is aligned under the Nursing Service, and reports to the Associate Chief Nurse, Specialty Care. This position provides administrative and clerical support for the facility Occupational Health Program, and Nursing Service staff employees.Advanced Medical Support Assistant

Duties

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant position, acts as a liaison by fielding requests for Occupational Health and outpatient care services via phone calls and face-to-face encounters. The work includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. The position requires administrative and technical knowledge due to the broad range of duties performed and the numerous guidelines that must be followed.

The following duties maybe included, but are not limited to:

Provides specialized and expert administrative support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care deliver model.
Direct Veteran contact and the day-to-day operation of the unit and facility. There is continuous emphasis on providing timely, competent, and compassionate healthcare to Veterans and employees.
Develops and/or maintains effective and efficient communication with the applicants, employees, volunteers and patients, interdisciplinary coordinated care deliver model teams, medical centers and other agencies.
Uses administrative judgment and the flexible to use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or care in the community resources.
Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines; cancels appointments, review patient records for necessary information, and review patient demographics.
Consults with clinic staff when processing physician scheduling and administrative orders.
Utilizes numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model.
Ensures that the clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the employee health, and makes adjustments as necessary.
Coordinates with the employee health team, and with the patient care teams, to review clinic appointment availability (utilization).
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

Qualifications Advanced Medical Support Assistant

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/28/2021.

Basic Requirements:
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g.).
English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j.
Experience: Six (6) months experience of clerical, office, [customer service], or other [administrative] work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, OR;
Education: One (1) year above high school, OR;
Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. (May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).Advanced Medical Support Assistant
