Once Dharmaraja Yudhishthira requested Lord Krishna to tell about the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Then Lord Krishna told him that Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi fast is called Kamada Ekadashi. By observing this fast one gets freedom from sins. The story of this Ekadashi fast is as follows-

In ancient times there was a kingdom of Bhogipur, whose king was Pundarik. He was endowed with wealth and opulence. Men and women named Lalit and Lalita lived in his own kingdom. Both loved each other very much. Once Lalit was singing a song with other artists in the meeting of King Pundarik when he got distracted by seeing Lalita and his tone got disturbed. When King Pundarik came to know about this, he cursed Lalit to become a demon who eats humans and raw meat. Under his influence, Lalit became a demon. His body became eight yojanas. His life became painful. He started living in the forest, while his wife Lalita became unhappy and she kept running after Lalit.

One day while roaming Lalita went to Shringi Rishi’s ashram on Vindhyachal mountain, where she started praying to Munivar. Sringi Rishi asked the reason for his coming, so he told the whole thing to him. Then Shringi Rishi said that you keep a fast on Kamada Ekadashi and give its virtue to your husband. Then he fasted on Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi as told by Shringi Rishi and on the next day completed the fast by crossing Dwadashi. Then she prayed to God that she would give the virtue of this fast to her husband so that he would be freed from the demon vagina.
