• This position is located within the Community Living Center (CLC-East) of GEC Nursing Service at the TVHS – Murfreesboro Campus. CLC East is a 22 bed Short Stay Rehabilitation and 11-bed Hospice unit. The primary purpose of the position is to assist in issuing medical care, supporting diagnostic procedures, technical nursing treatments, charting, and educating the residents within the CLC.Nursing Assistant [CLC East Rehab-Hospice]

Duties – Nursing Assistant [CLC East Rehab-Hospice]

The incumbent participates in implementing the healthcare plan by performing tasks delegated by and performed under the supervision and directions of a Registered Nurse. Accurately performs the full range of nursing procedures utilizing appropriate and safe techniques. Adheres to principles of infection control, safety, and standard precautions; participates in performance improvement initiatives and strives to elevate the practice standards on the unit. Provides information to residents and families, reports to RN frequently as to status and activities of the resident.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, assisting the resident with meals, lifting, turning, oral care, hair care, shaving, and related hygiene needs.
Performing a variety of procedures including measuring intake & output, Foley care, vital signs, glucose checks, and weights.
Documenting resident information.
Transporting residents as needed on and off the unit.
Maintaining BLS certification and may have to work with the code team.
Providing one-to-one nursing support for residents as ordered.
Making rounds with visual observations regarding the resident’s condition and promptly reports any changes such as vomiting, difficulty breathing, fainting, pain, difficulty ambulating, speech disturbances, skin disorders, and pressure injuries to the RN.
Other tasks are identified according to the needs of the service.

Applicants pending the completion of education or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens by VA Policy.
Education or Training: One year above high school with courses related to the [NA] occupation. Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant may also meet in full the experience requirements for GS-3.
Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
English Language Proficiency: NAs must be proficient in spoken and written English by VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
